How is skiing in Vermont compared to skiing in Utah?
I went to Park City, UT last March and loved it. Im thinking about going out east next time and am wondering if Vermont or somewhere else out east is good? I assume its not quite as nice as out west but hoping its similar? Any ideas, comments?
It depends on the resort. But in general the East places won’t have as much top-to-bottom altitude differences as out West. Also the snow won’t be as powdery. But skiing in the East is still definitely worthwhile. I live in the midwest, and enjoyed Quebec as much as Colorado. As far as skier type, I’m on the line between blue and black, and don’t do terrain parks.
They call it the “Ice Coast” for a reason. It will seem horrible in comparison to the Rockies
Sure, they get powder days and good days like anywhere else, but odds are it will be crowded and icy and you’ll spend more of your time on the lift (assuming you’re an advanced skier)
I live in Utah and have done both. If you’re a green/blue skier, you won’t notice too much of a difference except for the longer lift lines out east. The more difficult terrain you do, the more you’ll notice that the snow is softer in the Mountain West than the east. You shouldn’t need as much flotation in the east, so you can get away with a narrower-waisted ski.
You could have plenty of fun on the east coast if you go to the right place at the right time of year, Everybody that is out west acts like the east coast sucks and has no good places to ride, i go to bristol everyday of the season and have plenty of fun and really have no reason to go out west when there are so many good places to ride here
Killington has the vertical of many western resorts and has 200 trails, thats probably the closest in terms of size but there are a lot of other good places to

You will have plenty of fun on the east coast, resorts i recommend are, Killington, Stratton,Stowe,Sunday River…. those are some pretty big places which I take it you want and really for a vacation you probably want it but Holiday Valley and Bristol in NY are smaller resorts that are nice to ride at. They lack the size of places in Vermont and Maine but they both offer a lot of night riding which is nice if you cant make it during the day
