I almost died 7 years ago when the brakes on the GMC truck I was driving went out in a canyon?
I was working my way through school as a landscaper. I was driving a load of trees through parleys canyon between park city, UT and Salt lake city UT. I tried to slow the truck down on a steep grade and the brakes didn’t work, after about a half mile the road leveled out a bit so I drove it into the brush to stop the truck before I entered another part of the canyon that was a steep grade. Why isn’t the Obama Administration forcing government motors to recall their trucks with known bad brakes? Why isn’t USA Today running a front page story about the people that have died due to bad brakes on Government motors trucks?

The Government wasn’t the primary shareholder for GM when Bush was president.
It was my employers truck.
I did downshift that slowed it down enough for me to drive it into the brush.
Bob I was hauling trees not rocks, I wasn’t overloaded

Conservatism is a mental disorder.
Uh, why didn’t Bush do this 7 years ago?
It’s like you don’t even think before you post this stuff.
You do know the G in GMC stands for General.
maybe the name of the game is no one is thinking right yet. lol
Obama wouldn’t want to do anything against GM, since he owns it now.
God must hate us.
protectionism
YOu do know that Obama wasn’t president when that happened, right? 7 years ago, it was your hero W. You want that type of reform, write to your representatives. Don’t blame Obama for it.
Because there is only a small minority of people that this happened to and it could be due to a number of factors other than faulty production. I’m sorry,,, guess they are too worried about unimportant things you know,,, like the economy , war, and poverty, and civil rights.
how about you take some personal responsibility and keep your truck in better condition.
You’ve got no business driving a work truck if you don’t know how to downshift.
Why don’t you just contact USA Today and ask them yourself…it’s not like any of us know the answer.
You probably know the answer. GM is now 60% gov owned. They don’t care about their brakes. THey only care about other manufacturers brakes or problems so they can either run them out of business or do something else to hurt the sales of that brand to increase the sales of Gov. Motors (GM). Wait until Ford has another problem. They didn’t take any bail out money so Obama will go after them for anything he can.
Safety regulations that protect the consumers took a huge hit under Bush.
Too bad that you survived, Conservative moron.
Why because you don’t how to drive in a 3-D landscape ?
Update
Let’s review
* At the top of the steep grade [ 10%+ ? ]
you bring your vehicle to a complete stop Doing this will allow you to check your brakes and your brake pedal feel -soft ,hard ,spongy -will also help you to assess the condition of your brakes.
* You shift your vehicle into the lowest gear available and you do this if you’re driving a manual or an automatic transmission.
*You descend the grade in a controlled manner .
* Should you need to brake , you give your pedal short hard stabs which will quickly scrub your speed off.
*The one thing that you do NOT do is ride your brakes because such actions will over heat them , glaze the shoes/pad & drums/rotors thereby rendering your brakes useless.
So what part of that did you get wrong?
If you drive a manual gear shift car it’s actually very easy to stop your car by going down gear by gear. Then you could stop safely and get your brakes sorted out. If you don’t drive a manual car then you really should be. It just makes for better driving. I think this is what Obama is trying to tell you.
I bet you didn’t have health insurance and was going to stick the rest of us if you got injured. You also don’t appear to be smart enough to have your truck maintained. Only an idiot would drive a truck through a canyon with bad brakes.
1. how old was the truck
2. when was the last time the truck was serviced
3. were the original parts still in the truck
4. was the truck involved in an accident previously that might have caused damage
Its one thing for brakes to go out on a vehicle and quite another for it to be a design flaw.
GREAT-fake story like the part where you compare apples to oranges……
First of all, it sounds to me as if you could have been overloaded and experienced brake fade which is caused by brakes over heating due to improper use, but we will never know since we have no way of verifying your story. Secondly, You are one person who apparently was not injured compared to almost a hundred that have died due to the Toyota defect. Thirdly and most important — this problem began during the Bush administration who failed to do anything about it other than issue a suggestion that Toyota look into the problem. And finally there is no government motors. General Motors is still being run by virtually the same group that ran it (into the ground) and had to ask for a bail out to cover their incompetence and unless you graduated less than a year ago there was not government of any kind when your alleged incident took place. The ignorance of Republican always amazes, but seldom surprises me.
I haven’t gotten over the crappy American cars of the late 70s-80s and have bought Japanese ever since.
Why not indeed. 1.3 mil recalls from GM just this year. Now they have a plant in China and are calling those junkers Chevy Aveos. The Cobalt is a total POS and the Chevy Volt due out soon, is offering a lease on the $9,000 battery.
You do realize that by making fun of the administration for being involved in people have died makes you guys look like idiots, right?
Oh and by the way GM RECALLED 1.3 MILLION CARS LAST WEEK!

It’s in BUSINESS WEEK!
I don’t think your break problem was the fault of GM but I have to wonder why with all the major recalls the Big 3 have had over the years that the government suddenly finds it necessary to go after Toyota. I will be a Ford customer as long as they keep the government out of their business.
