Here are the approximate distances and driving times to the surrounding national parks.
Grand Teton – 275 miles, 4:30. Old Faithful in Yellowstone is another 85 miles, 1:45 past the southern entrance to Grand Teton.
Great Basin – 235 miles, 3:45
Zion (Kolob Canyon section) – 270 miles, 4:00
Bryce Canyon – 270 miles, 4:30
Arches & Canyonlands – 230 miles, 3:45
A one day roundtrip drive to any of these parks is hardly worth the effort. I suggest you pick one of these parks and spend at least a night there. Two nights would be preferred. I’ve been to all of these parks at least once and they are all worth visiting. In your situation I would choose one of the closer parks – Great Basin in Nevada or Arches in southeastern Utah. If you’re doing a one day thing you won’t have much time for hiking. In Great Basin I would hike the short trail to the Bristlecone Pine grove on the slopes of Mt Wheeler at 10,500 feet elevation and take the tour into Lehman Caves. The Bristlecone Pine grove trail is not heavily used but is a short 3 miles roundtrip and well graded. In Arches I would do the Delicate Arch trail and if time permits I would try to do the Double-O Arch trail. Both these trails are well traveled so you will no doubt be in the company of other hikers.
