Relax and Explore American History at the Battery Park

Battery Park gets its name from the historical use of the area by the British and Dutch as an artillery battery. Previously used as a fireboat and the Hope garden, is Pier A, at the northern tip of the area. Adjacent to the US Coast Guard Battery Building, and on the opposite side is the Battery Garden Restaurant. There are a number of water ferries available alongside the water front that takes visitors to the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island. There is a stop in the New York Water taxi waterway between the Statue of Liberty and Pier A.

The Battery Park city is a typical planned community residential area on the north west aspect of the garden. This was constructed during the 70s and the 80s and also has the Robert F Wagner park and the battery city Promenade. Today, the bikeways, promenades and the Hudson River park, all spread until the Hudson shore. Currently a bikeway is under construction and it will extend between the Hudson River and the east river sections of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. The old US Customs building, now functional as the National Museum of the American Indian and the district U.S. Bankruptcy Court, is located on the north east stands. The south east tip of the garden has the Peter Minuit plaza that is facing the South Ferry Terminal of the Staten Island Ferry.

On December 8, 2005, New York City officials declared that during the construction of a new South Ferry subway station in Battery Park, the workers discovered the remains of a 200 years old stone-wall. During the same works, many other historical remains came forth that included at least four different walls and almost 250,000 artifacts. Some selected sections of one of the excavated walls were put on public display for some time in the Castle Clinton.

Battery Park is located nearby to several interesting New York attractions and visitors can explore the area at leisure. Nearby, you’ll find several accommodations options, and it’s recommended to stay at a luxury hotel. New York is a big metropolis and you’ll find plenty of things to do while you are there The Premier Hotel is an excellent luxury hotel in New York you many want to try out.

A few years ago, American Fork was one of Money Magazine’s top 100 places to live in the United States.  Named after the river nearby, this great city was settled by the Mormon pioneers in 1850.  Currently, the population has increased to about 25,596 people.  About 20% of the population rents one of the 6,120 American Fork homes.

Many of the locals are employed by major businesses in the city such as Certiport, Dentrix, Goyin, HP Logoworks, Fidelity Investments, Tahitian Noni, True North Academy, and TwinLabs/IdeaSphere.  Some of the surrounding cities are Highland, Cedar Hills, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Alpine, Vineyard, Lindon, and Saratoga Springs.  Provo and Salt Lake are conveniently located only 20 to 30 minutes away.  Therefore, Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University, Mountainland Applied Technology College and Provo College are all within driving range.

Climate norms average a July high of 91 degrees and a January low of 20.  About 17 inches of rain and 42 inches of snow fall each year.  Locals enjoy using their leisure time playing a round of golf at Fox Hollow or spending time in the breath taking American Fork Canyon.  The city has their annual Steel Days celebration every year for one week in the summer.  An unbeatable location allows access within a half day to many of Utah’s monuments, recreational areas and national parks.  It also provides a lot of great real estate in American Fork.

The number of homes sold actually increased by a small percentage last quarter but prices slightly decreased.  It is a great time to buy Utah homes.

Where’s the best (and safest) American City?

Obviously there will be answers which will be biased here, but I would like to know of a good city where crime isn’t too high, the education is good standard (not the rough, ghetto kind!) and there’s places out of town such as countryside/national parks? Someone recommended salt lake city in utah, which I find looked great, but I was thinking more along the lines of chicago or detroit, but don’t know if this would be the best place for bringing up kids. If you’re reading this, and were a kid growing up in a big city, did you like it? did this benefit you? or would you have preferred growing up in a quiet town? I just find the cities so appealing!
Also..Is it just me, but do alot of films stereotype alot states/towns as being a bit…behind with the times and simple? why?…is it coz it’s true for alot of them?
Thanks for answering. I live in Scotland, therefore life is very different here, (and boring! lol)

Sheryl Crow Unveils Plans for North American and Australian Tour

Sheryl Crow Unveils Plans for North American and Australian Tour

Sheryl Crow’s career began more than two decades ago, when the former elementary school teacher was discovered by local producers in a small Missouri town. After a brief stint as a widely successful TV jingle writer, Crow’s big break finally arrived in 1987, when she was brought on as a vocalist on Michael Jackson’s BAD World Tour.

In 1993, Crow released her first album, Tuesday Night Music Club. The album was an instant hit with fans around the world. It went on to produce several successful singles, move more than 5.3 million units and achieve a 7x Multi-Platinum RIAA certification.

Since Tuesday Night Music Club, Crow has released eight additional albums, including: Sheryl Crow, The Globe Sessions, Sheryl Crow and Friends: Live from Central Park, C’mon C’mon, The Very Best of Sheryl Crow, Wildflower, Hits & Rarities and her latest 2008 release, Detours. These albums have featured some of Crow’s most popular singles, including All I Wanna Do, Strong Enough, If It Makes you Happy, Every Day is a Winding Road, My Favorite Mistake, Sweet Child o’ Mine, Soak Up the Sun and C’Mon C’Mon.

Crow’s latest release, Detours, was reviewed by critics as the resurrection of a classic Sheryl Crow at her finest. The album’s sound mirrors Crow’s earlier work, namely 1998’s The Globe Sessions. In addition, Detours sees Crow collaborating once again with Bill Bottrel, the producer of her widely successful debut release, Tuesday Night Music Club.

To promote and celebrate Detours, Cheryl Crow has begun touring, in concert tour which sees the musician performing in four countries on two continents, over the span of almost half a year. The tour kicked off in August of 2008 in the United States and is set to hit Canada in September and October and Australia and New Zealand in November and December.
