Many courses are likely to be unfit to play but there is a select group of golf courses that will be open come wind, rain or shine. It is definitely worth noting them down and if you are in and around the areas it is worth going in for a round of golf.
Weston-super-Mare Golf Club
The Weston-super-Mare Golf Club is a great venue to test your skills on and is fortunate enough to be blessed with a year round course. It is very rare that the club is closed because of the rain and this is due to the brilliant drainage system it has. You need to make sure that you are concentrating on your golf and that your shots are accurate as you may end up slicing the ball into the Bristol Channel. Great views are also available here so you are sure to enjoy a good round if you choose to visit the Weston-super-Mare Golf Club.
Wychwood Park
Wychwood Park has played host to 2 Euro Pro Tour events so this shows how good the course is. This also means that the greens and fairways offer many challenges, especially at this time of year with the wind and rain making shots difficult to judge. It opened in 2002, making it one of the newest courses on the golfing map and the course designers have made full use of modern day technology.
The latest computer irrigation system means the course is in the best playing condition throughout the year. Go along to Wychwood, its located on the Cheshire plains and is certainly somewhere that will test the skills of even the best golfer. This is just one of the courses that you can use 2 for 1 golf vouchers on so you can save money as you play.
East Brighton
Considered as one of the best courses in the country, East Brighton is a par 72 course and has 6,346 yards of testing green to see how you fair against some of the best players in the world. The magnificent views that are available add icing to the cake. Its chalk base means the course is playable all year round and it is extremely easy to get to as it is just 2 miles from the city centre of Brighton.
See where you fancy playing a round of golf this winter but always ring ahead to check that the course will be open before heading there. These courses are most likely to be open so consider these first. These courses are hazardous so you need to make sure that you have adequate golf insurance.

Geography Of Irish Golf Courses
Geography Of Irish Golf Courses
There are many good reasons to take golf vacations in Ireland. Chief among these are the world renowned courses, the informal friendliness of the people and of course, the wonderful scenery. Here is a very brief run down on what kind of terrain to expect from each local region when you consider golf vacations in Ireland The West and North West This region lies along the rugged Atlantic coast, from Ballyliffin all the way down to Galway. Links golf is pretty much the order of the day here although there is also a scattering of parkland courses.
The South West For all those who wish to experience the best that Irish golf has to offer, this is the region to come to. The majority of courses are located along the coastline from just south of Galway around to Waterville. There are also a few parkland courses inland. The South This region is centred around the county and city of Cork. The beautiful backdrop of parkland and heath offers exhilarating golf with a range of spectacular courses.
The South East From Dungarvan in the south, and following the Irish Sea round to Dublin, the courses in this region are mainly park and heath land. The North East (including Dublin) This region is blessed with two of the finest courses in the country. Portmarnock is arguably the best Championship Course in Ireland, and Druid’s Glen, a classic parkland course which hosted the Irish Open for four years.
The Midlands Cavan, Kildare, Laois, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon and Tipperary offer a great selection of courses in parkland settings which make use of undulating landscapes and shimmering lakes. Golf Vacations UK provide tailor made self drive or escorted golf vacations in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales for groups of any size. Visit them at www.golfvacationsuk.com
Mile High Golf Courses? Vail & Colorado Golf Courses
Mile High Golf Courses? Vail & Colorado Golf Courses
When you start searching Colorado maps and resources the first thing you notice are the great number of golf courses in the state of Colorado.
In the mountains, the Aspen area is sparse in the number of golf courses compared to the Vail area, This might have something to do with former President Gerald Ford giving attention to Vail over Aspen. As you might remember, former President Ford was a big golf fan and player. Although not a tournament-class player, he had fun playing as long as you weren’t in his line of fire with a stray golf ball. For the younger people… Gerald Ford had a bad habit of hitting bystanders.
What about the Denver area? Wow, a whopping number of golf courses are listed, over 40 featured ones alone. It makes you wonder if there’s any room for a city.
Colorado Springs is no slouch. there are about 40 golf courses around that area too and the weather tends to be nicer due to a little thing called the Palmer Divide near Monument. The divide is about 3,000 feet above Denver and 2,000 feet or so above Colorado Springs. Storms coming from the north tend to stall on Palmer Divide and so your golf outing is less likely to be interrupted. Storms from the west are different. Better get off the golf course before lightning decides you’re its next target.
The Fort Collins area shows about 30 golf courses and the Pueblo area about 10. Pueblo isn’t as big into golf as its northern neighbors. Possibly because of its working class roots as a steel town and the surrounding agricultural areas. For some reason, steel workers and farmers usually find better things to be doing than golfing.
The Grand Junction area has about twice as many golf courses than the Pueblo area. Do you suppose tending orchards in Grand Junction (peaches, cherries, apples) gives them the desire to play golf more?
The Grand Lake area is also thin with golf courses. But what golf courses there are there have to be good. Just being in the area is fantastic…what with the huge (by Colorado standards – this isn’t Minnesota) Grand Lake and gorgeous Rocky Mountain National Park nearby. If you want to get away from the maddening crowds and experience the Rocky Mountains at its best, check out the Telluride area. Gasps of awe are guaranteed in this part of the Rocky Mountains.
A word of warning though. If you’re from a lower elevation state I’d suggest using an electric cart. Playing golf five to nine thousand feet higher than you’re used to, can make 18 holes feel like a 30 mile marathon. There is a good thing though. Your golf ball will travel farther than you’ve ever hit before thanks to that thin air.
That being said, whenever you golf in Colorado, you’re bound to have a good time. The weather is great (over 300 sunny days per year) with a gorgeous scenery that can’t be beat anywhere else in the world.
RC Rougeux live in Colorado and writes articles about Vail and Colorado for his Vail informational websites at: Vail Colorado and a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.aspencoloradomountainvacation.com”>Aspen Colorado
The Best Golf Courses in Portugal
The Best Golf Courses in Portugal
Portugal is one of the best destinations of the world for the practice of this sport. The mild weather and the quality of the courses make golf a mandatory presence in all Portugal vacation packages for those who like this sport. Let’s discover two places with a large offer of golf courses: Estoril/Cascais and the Algarve.
Estoril/Cascais – Between the areas that goes from the Natural Park of the Serra of Sintra to the seaside resorts of Estoril and Cascais hide great emotions for the golfers who like to improve their technique. Near the Serra of Sintra, the path Atlantico da Penha Longa where it has been organized several competitions of the European Tour, is inserted in a luxury touristic resort which was a convent. It’s a rocky field with several levels of difficulty, which offers a magnificent landscape over the mountain and the sea.
The most recent golf course of the region is the Quinta da Marinha Oitavos, designed by the famous American architect Arthur Hills and the first in Europe and second in the world to possess the Certified Signature Sanctuary/Gold given by the Audubon International. It offers a superb view over the Palacio da Pena and the Cabo da Roca being the main challenge of this course of large fairways the rolling greens which demand well-aimed puts. Closer to Lisbon we have the golf course of Belas, designed by William Rocky Roquemore where the wind is the major key that influences the trajectory of the strike. Two holes deserve to be highlighted: hole number 1, baptized with the name Augusta in honour of the hole 13 where the Us Masters is held and hole 18, an unforgettable pair 4 named Big Hole where on the second strike the ball has to run 180 meters to the green well protected by a lake.
Algarve – The Algarve has about 30 golf courses of excellent quality, which are visited by golfers from all over the world. The wonderful weather characterized by many hours of sun per day makes this region a golf destination for all year. The weather, the natural beauty of the region with 150 kilometers of white sandy beaches and a coast full of beautiful cliffs led Sir Henry Cotton to predict a great future for golf in the Algarve. Don’t forget that we are talking about a region that was chosen by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators as the best golf destination and ten golf courses were chosen by the magazine Golf World as being on the top 100 of Europe.
We have to mention the Ocean Course (designed by Sir Henry Cotton) and the Royal Course, both in Vale de Lobo. Probably, you already know the hole 16 of the last one as photographers from all over the world take pictures of the amazing cliffs between the tee and the green. Nigel Mansell, Formula 1 champ, was the president of Pine Cliffs where the hole 16, near a ravine demanding a strike over the beach was one of his biggest challenges. It is worth mentioning the golf courses of Palmares, near the historic city of Lagos, San Lorenzo in the exquisite Quinta do Lago or Quinta da Ria opposite the beautiful Natural Reserve of Ria Formosa. In Quinta da Ria, near the river Guadiana, don’t let the wonderful landscape distract you from your golf performance. Besides your favorite sport, don’t forget to appreciate other great things that the Algarve has to offer, for example, grilled fish and seafood.
Los Angeles Golf Courses: Sun, Surf and More
Los Angeles Golf Courses: Sun, Surf and More
Of course you don’t want to play golf on the beach, which would be like playing in a gargantuan sand trap – but you can certainly enjoy a view of the ocean while playing at several Los Angeles golf courses, many of which are absolute garden spots. When it comes to the choice of a golf course, Los Angeles aficionados can choose from any one of dozens of well-maintained, challenging public facilities – which are economical to use (in some cases they are free to the public), and include practice areas where you can concentrate on perfecting specific skills such as putting or swing – or one of the city’s exclusive private country clubs. In fact, many a private LA golf course is legendary; a few private Los Angeles golf courses date back to the early years of the 20th Century. Who’s to say you won’t run into the ghosts of some silver screen legends such as Charlie Chaplin or Clark Gable?
We’re kidding, of course – there’s no such thing as ghosts (right?) You’ll definitely enjoy the mature and meticulous landscaping as well as gorgeous views when you play at a private LA golf course like Bobby Jones Golf just outside Malibu or one of the several exclusive LA golf courses in and around spectacular Topanga State Park.
Private vs. the Public Golf Course
Los Angeles residents enjoy having a choice between private country clubs and public municipal facilities; each of these offer certain advantages to particular people, and some may be better served by one more than the other. Private LA golf courses are of course expensive as well as exclusive facilities; however, these offer much more in the way of amenities such as food service (and you’ll find that the food at a private LA golf course restaurant to be excellent) as well as other activities; sometimes, a relaxing swim after a game is just the thing, followed by a cocktail at the onsite lounge.
You won’t find such amenities at public Los Angeles golf courses, though the play can be just as challenging. One major difference is the cost; as you might expect, you’ll pay much less to play at a public golf course. Los Angeles visitors will probably prefer public facilities for just this reason. Fortunately, there are lodging facilities that are quite convenient to these Los Angeles golf courses when you come to visit on business or for pleasure.
Los Angeles Tee Times
Visitors to the City of Angels will want to take advantage of the less-crowded Los Angeles tee times, which are generally during weekday mornings. These are the least expensive times to enjoy Los Angeles golf courses, and will give you the pleasure of a more leisurely-paced game as well.

The city has half a dozen courses of various levels of play where amateurs, pros, and everyone in between can practice their swing like a champion.
Golfing is a popular past time around the world, but especially in the cities that line the sunny California coast. With less than a month’s worth of rainy days each year, it doesn’t matter whether the calendar says January or June, it’s always the ideal weather for golfers to go play a round or hit a bucket of balls.
Long Beach, in particular, is filled with tourists and locals who take to the green to enjoy 18 holes at the golf courses at El Dorado Park, Skylinks, Recreation Park and Heartwell Park (where Tiger perfected his short game). Golfers looking for a short game can play the executive course at Bixby Village Golf Course or Recreation Park, which has both an 18-hold and 9-hole course.
While golf will always remain a sport of skill and ability, another reason that many folks take to the courses is to be part of the beauty and enjoy the scenery of being surrounded by the great outdoors. Golf courses are often built in areas of natural beauty, from an oasis in the desert to serene lakes and forests. Long Beach golf courses have many wonderful features that take advantage of the natural beauty of the Southern California landscape. Each of the city’s courses has its own unique attractions, but they all share one thing in common – gorgeous greens with lots of extras. In a city with more than half a dozen courses, you can only expect that they will all be competing to outdo each other.
Finding a golf course isn’t difficult, with a little bit of time you can find a list of courses where you can also read reviews by local golfers. You’re sure to find a course that suites your tastes and skills. With the exception of Bixby Village, all of the above golf courses are owned by the city. These municipal courses even allow online booking, so you can reserve a tee time at your leisure.
If you really want the golf experience of a lifetime, come to this coastal community to play during the summer months (May-August) and get involved in the Long Beach Golf Festival. This event starts in the beginning of May and consists of at least nine different golf tournaments spaced out over the course of four months.
Golf holidays are becoming more and more popular and are an excellent holiday for groups of people – even if they have varying skill level. Whether you come for a festival, a tournament, a vacation or just for a day, you’ll find a Long Beach golf course that will provide new excitement and new challenges.
EverythingLongBeach.com offers community news and information about local entertainment, Long Beach attractions and of course Long Beach golf courses.
Minnesota Golf Courses: Mille Lacs Golf Resort and Marina
Minnesota Golf Courses: Mille Lacs Golf Resort and Marina
If you take a poll of true Minnesotans and you ask them to name areas of the state that are traditional vacation destinations, the Mille Lacs Lake area is certain to be in the top five locations for the majority of those polled. Taking a trip to Mille Lacs is one that nearly every Minnesotan has made. A trip to Mille Lacs is similar to attending the Minnesota State Fair or going to the State Capitol building on a field trip as a 5th grade student, everybody does it.
Just off of U.S. Highway 169 and an easy 90-minute drive north from the Twin Cities, just six miles south of Garrison, there is a golf course that has been open since 1964. There have been some changes made during the past couple of seasons and more changes that will be taking place in the months and years ahead. Welcome to Mille Lacs Golf Resort and Marina featuring Hardwoods Golf Club. Future plans include a new log design clubhouse and restaurant, a 35,000 square foot indoor water park, a day spa, a 120-unit hotel condo building and many more amenities planned for the future. There is also the option of purchasing or renting single-family homes and townhouses which feature log design.
There are some changes in the future for Hardwoods Golf Club. There are some plans on the drawing board to stretch the 6,309 yard course a bit by adding some length to a couple of the tee boxes and converting one of the longer par-4 holes into a par-5 making the course a par-72. The addition of some strategically placed bunkers is on the drawing board as well. In it’s current design Hardwoods Golf Club plays to a par-71 with a course rating of 69.7 and a slope index of 119. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by looking at the yardage on the scorecard and thinking you can overpower this golf course. If you are an accurate ball-striker and an above average putter you can score well, but if you let your guard down this golf course will have you for lunch. All of the greens are small, elevated and have enough undulation to keep you on top of your putting game. The greens at Hardwoods Golf Club have been described as Pinehurst-like, and I would agree with this statement.
General Manager Trent Christenson along with his management staff of, Jim Resch- Head Golf Professional, Justin Heitkamp- Pro Shop Manager and Bob Weston-Golf Course Superintendent, do a fine job of making patrons feel welcome as well as keeping the facility in fine condition.
The weekend rate of .00 per person with a cart is quite reasonable for this resort destination. Seniors can golf on any Monday or Wednesday for .00 per person with a cart making this an even better value. For tee times call 1-800-435-8720 or visit their website at www.millelacsgolf.com
With the planned additions to the Hardwoods Golf Club as well as the planned expansion to the resort facilities, Mille Lacs Golf Resort and Marina featuring Hardwoods Golf Club is a destination you will want to bring your family to again and again.
How to Get on Nyc Golf Courses
How to Get on Nyc Golf Courses
How to get on new york golf courses. Anyone who is familiar with the history of the Big Apple knows that it was a seaport and commerce center long before it was anything else. The geography of NYC has also played a large part in how the city developed. In short, unlike Los Angeles â which didnât even exist when New York was a bustling business center and port of entry â anything that came along later had to adapt itself to what was already there.
Case in point – nyc tee times are hard to find. Unlike Los Angeles, which has 144 of them, there are only 19 nyc golf courses located within the five boroughs â and 18 of them are owned and operated by the City, meaning that they are owned by the public.
This is actually a good thing, because it means consistent greens fees throughout the city, which are considerable lower than those charged at the private country clubs outside the metro area. The fees for tee times at 17 of the nyc golf courses are established by the NYC Parks Foundation, and are all the same.
The one exception is Moshulu Driving Range in the Bronx, which has slightly different fee structures â which are still quite low for NYC residents with an annual permit (only per year for adults). This is a nine-hole regulation course, par 35, with 3,253 yards. Weekend greens fees are only two dollars more on the weekend, and include the use of a golf cart if available.
The one remaining private driving range within the city is Chelsea Piers. These are located on actual piers in Manhattan and are unusual in that they offer âSimulator Sessionsâ – a form of technology that was science fiction only a quarter century ago. Those who have seen the science fiction movie Outland that starred Sean Connery may remember Peter Boyle playing virtual golf on a similar device, that at the time was a Hollywood illusion. That technology is now real and available at Chelsea Piers, one of the most technologically advanced nyc golf courses.
Simulator play at Chelsea Piers is expensive, however: a one-hour session will cost you more than an entire eighteen-hole game at one of the traditional open-air nyc golf courses operated by the NYC Parks Foundation. Tee times can be reserved for anywhere from around during the week to about on the weekends. Senior citizens get to play for a little over half that, and kids under 16 can play during the week for as little as .50 â and get free golf lessons through the Parks Department to boot!
