Do you prefer living in the city or living in the suburbs? Everyone has their reasons why they like one over the other because there is a huge difference between the two. Whether you grew up in a city or moved to a city when you got to college, there is a major difference in perception. Likewise if you are used to farm houses, homeless roads, and cheap patio sets, and you move to the city later in life, it might be a very nice change in pace. Here are the best reasons to live in the city over the suburbs.

1. There is tons more to do, more restaurants, bars, museums, malls and parks. There is definitely more of a night life.
2. It’s where better jobs tend to be located, downtown especially.

3. There’s a higher chance of meeting fun new people.

4. More people around may make you feel more safe in a life threatening situation.

5. Long, scary, winding, dangerous country roads are inexistent.

6. There tends to be more diversity in a much more dense population.

7. An emergency response team is likely to reach you at a faster rate than if you were living out in the boonies.

8. There are more school options for your children and store options for your groceries.

9. There is much more public transportation options and if you are living in a good spot you can basically walk anywhere which saves gas and gets you in shape.

10. There is a better chance of blending in and finding people who share your interests, beliefs, and way of life. Likewise, there is a lot more diversity which can help with personal growth and allow you to become more confident about who you are.

What are your reasons to love the city? Is it the night life or the fact that there’s more people around. Personally, I like there is so much more to do in the city, so many places to see, so many discoveries to make. I also like the fact that you can walk anywhere and there are no long, winding roads to drive on. I love the diversity as well.

People frequently argue over whether it is best to reside in an urban neighborhood or a suburban neighborhood. The active city is perhaps not right for individuals who adore a calm, peaceful environment. Meanwhile, individuals who live in metropolitan areas rarely find what they are looking for in the calm suburbs. Investigating the amenities that each has to offer, is the only way for a person to determine what is right for him or her.

One of the primary issues for most people, no matter where they choose to reside will be traveling difficulties. The drive to their job is not likely to be a long one for city dwellers, and community transportation alternatives often make travel there a breeze. Also, urban life often affords people the opportunity to totally forgo a lot of their driving; several basic necessities are within walking distance of home despite what city neighborhood one chooses. Suburban living often leads to long commutes, the bigger the city, the further the commute to work. The average commute of someone residing in the suburbs is probably anywhere from 25-35 miles depending on the size of the town.

One of the benefits of living in the suburbs is the opportunity to purchase a big home. Cities are crowded, making property scarce in urban areas. This makes real estate more precious in urban communities. You are likely to get a smaller home with less yard space in a large city. Suburban living typically affords individuals the opportunity to buy a larger house or a larger piece of property for a lot less. Home size and value are not the only differences in the cost of living either: urban areas frequently have higher taxes and an overall higher cost of living.

If you believe variety to be the spice of life, then urban life may be for you. People’s preferences differ widely, and no matter what you are searching for, a big city can accommodate you. Foodies and shopaholics will find that all of their various needs are met in big cities. Most cities also offer a array of public parks and other free activities that aren’t available in suburban communities. The advantages of suburban life may still be more important to folks than their lack of diverse entertainment and activity opportunities. If you compare the benefits to both ways of life, and select the one that best suits you, then the argument over which is better has been resolved!

Big cities are probably ideal places to begin your career, but low cost locales makes it easier for people to save for a house, start a family and grow along with the town. So if you are looking to enjoy a good quality of life in one such city, you may want to choose from the following list of America’s best places to live and work, based on Sperling’s Best Places.

These top ten low-cost communities have been diligently chosen based on essential criteria that include plentiful jobs, low cost of living, affordable housing and great quality of life. Several of these locales are college towns and many are located amidst beautiful and picturesque natural surroundings.

The following communities are the top 10 affordable places to live and work, according to Sperling’s Best Places.

1. Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, Arkansas/Missouri

Nestled in the Ozark Mountains, Fayetteville is a small college town with a progressive feel, a thriving economy and an ideal environment for young families. While Springdale is a hub of several booming businesses including light manufacturing, trucking and agricultural processing, Rogers is a major residential area with a booming economy contributed by big stores such as Wal-Mart. The area enjoys a five-year job growth of 26.1 % (the national average being 4.9 %) and a low unemployment rate of 3.5 %. The three-city area had a median home price of 2,300 in January 2007.

2. Idaho Falls, Idaho

The name itself is indicative of the natural bounty that this town enjoys. Idaho Falls is located on the northeast part of the Snake River and has the Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks in its proximity. Jobs are plenty in this small town that is driven by a mixed economy of agriculture and industry. A nuclear-research center, a health care center and small businesses offer plenty of employment. The town has a mixed population in terms of religion with about half of the residents being adherents of the Mormon faith. Idaho Falls’ median home price in January 2007 was 4,800.

3. Logan, Utah

Set in the middle of beautiful mountain ranges and valleys, Logan, Utah, offers great outdoor experiences. Cultural and sporting events are aplenty in this college town. A diverse economy, young work force, family owned businesses and pedestrian-friendly streets are major plus points. This beautiful town had a median home price of 0,600 in January 2007. The moderate climate and low cost of living are favorable for residents. The town has over 70 % of residents who are practicing Mormons.

4. Auburn-Opelika, Alabama

Home to Alabama University, the area is ideal for families and young people. A growing economy, good job prospects and high level of education among residents characterize Auburn. 5. Iowa City, Iowa

6. Dubuque, Iowa

Pensacola’s beaches are the top most attraction for residents who enjoy its 52 miles of Caribbean-like, white sandy beaches. The community is home to a lively bar scene, the University of West Florida and the Pensacola Naval Air Station. The economy is diverse and thriving. On the other hand, the area being a hurricane zone could be a spirit dampener for many. The January median home price was 3,900.

8. Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Radford, Virginia

Popular for housing the Virginia Polytechnic Institute or the Virginia Tech, this tri-city area offers a small-town feel and college amenities, amidst a beautiful mountain landscape. Residents enjoy a pleasant climate, and a low cost of living with the advantages of arts, entertainment, commerce and health care. Isolation from air service could be a disadvantage to some. The median home price in January 2007 was at a low 7,800.

9. Huntsville, Alabama

The “Space Capital of America’ as it is called, Huntsville is home to numerous technology and aerospace firms, besides being the center for research, technology and high-tech manufacturing. 10. Fargo, North Dakota

There is no dearth for college amenities in this college town which is home to North Dakota State University and has the Moorhead State University and Concordia College located close by. Modern buildings, a robust economy and the lowest unemployment rate in the whole country (2.6 %) makes Fargo a great place to live and work. Although winters are a negative aspect the town offers plenty of action. The area had a median home price of 2,586 in January 2007.

Zack Greinke has traditionally fared well over his career against the Detroit Tigers, but in two tries this season he’s come up empty.

Greinke will get one more chance to beat the Tigers this year when he and the Kansas City Royals open a three-game series at Comerica Park on Monday.

Greinke (9-12, 3.90 ERA) is 11-5 with a 2.62 ERA in his career against Detroit, his most wins and second-lowest ERA against any AL opponent. However, he doesn’t have a decision in two starts against the Tigers this season — both Kansas City (61-87) losses — and has posted a 3.65 ERA.

He gave up four runs in 6 1/3 innings of a 9-5, 11-inning home loss to Detroit on Sept. 3. It marked the most runs Greinke has given up against the Tigers in their last eight meetings.

The right-hander is looking for back-to-back victories after snapping a personal four-start winless streak against Oakland on Tuesday. Greinke gave up three runs in seven innings of an 11-3 win.

The 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner is 6-3 with a 2.48 ERA in 11 career starts at Comerica Park. He’s pitched 12 scoreless innings in his last two outings there.

The Tigers (75-74) will look to cause more trouble for Greinke after sweeping a three-game set in Chicago over the weekend. They concluded the series with a 9-7 win in 11 innings Sunday — their 10th victory in 16 games overall — after Gerald Laird hit a tiebreaking single to help Detroit win despite blowing a four-run lead in the ninth.

“It was an all-around fun game to be a part of,” Laird said. “I’m just glad its over.”

Miguel Cabrera went 0 for 5 for a second straight game. The AL MVP candidate is hitting .095 the last five games with eight strikeouts.

He’s had recent success against the Royals, though, hitting .357 with 13 RBIs on the season. He is 7 for 25 with no extra-base hits lifetime off Greinke.

Kansas City avoided being swept by Cleveland over the weekend, winning 6-4 Sunday. Luke Hochevar picked up his first win since May 26 and Yuniesky Betancourt stole home as part of a double steal during a four-run second inning.

“Yuney did a great job,” said center fielder Mitch Maier, who made up the other half of the double steal. “Soon as he saw the pitcher turn his back and run toward to me, he took off.”

Detroit will hand the ball to Rick Porcello (9-11, 5.10), who has won his last four starts while posting a 2.48 ERA and lasting at least seven innings each time. The right-hander gave up three runs and four hits in eight innings of a 6-3 win over the White Sox on Thursday.

Porcello’s winning streak began against the Royals on Aug. 24, when he allowed two hits in seven scoreless innings of a 9-1 victory. He is 3-1 with a 4.03 ERA in six career starts against them.

The Royals and Tigers have split six meetings in Detroit this season. The Tigers took two of three Aug. 23-25 while outscoring the Royals 24-8.
