In 2007 Shaun White became the first X-Game Gold Medalist, in both the summer and the winter competitions. How did he do this you ask? He is what we like to call a multi-talented snowboard-skateboarder. Shaun White’s very own line of snowboards costs five hundred dollars to ride in the winter and his skate board deck costs fifty-five dollars to ride summer – but of course, pays for neither. The real question is… what if he did? It seems pretty cut and dry that snowboarding would be more expensive; however like anything in life, it’s just not that simple.
Shaun White’s Burton Shaun White board (9.95) with Burton Custom Bindings (9.95) screwed in on top are according to his website, his favorites. Assuming for the rest his brand continues to be his favorite; snug inside his Customs would be his very own White Collection boots (9.95). To keep this hypothetical Shaun warm he’ll use his Burton Heaven’s Reward Collection – his most expensive look – with a jacket (9.95) and pants (9.95); along with his White Collection first layer Union Suit (.95) and sock (.95). And you can’t forget the most expensive Burton Gloves (.95), Under-gloves (.95), Oakley Shaun White A Frame goggles (.00), and R.E.D. Hi-Fi Helmet (0.00). Finally, a season’s pass for Shaun’s home mountain in Park City, Utah would be around 5. In general, a snowboard will last two years. (It can actually last much longer, or much less.) This comes out to a yearly cost, assuming with a new snowboard, you’re buying new gear of 97.33.
When Shaun White is skateboarding, he might use his very own deck, the Birdhouse Shaun White Torch Girl deck (.95). However, according to Birdhouse a year’s supply of decks is twelve (9.40), along with grip tape for each of these new decks (12 @ .95; .40). Shaun White would only use the best, so take for example Spitfire wheels (), Destructo Gold trucks (2 @ .95; .90) for each new board, as well (86.80) and Bones Black Swiss Bearings (.95) twice a year. Amazingly, skateboarding comes out to be one and a half times more expensive than snowboarding – despite what it seems at first with how pricy a snowboard is! Yet, pros like Shaun White will never have to worry about this again, and we’ll just keep riding.

If you want the ideal snowboarding vacation, you and many others are looking for the perfect mountain. The perfect mountain is private. The ideal mountain may be the ideal amount of snow, the ideal amount of air, the ideal time, and even the fresh crisp quality of the air. These comprise the best snowboarding mountain experiences. You want to find the right places to attempt to then hopefully find them early enough in the season before the crowds start to form. Some of the finest mountains might not be that a long way from home.
Kirkwood, California has a superb snowboard park and a great snowboarding mountain experience at a high altitude. It offers open bowls, chutes, drops and lifts. Kirkwood was lately reconstructed and 2 new lifts were added. The terrain parks and halfpipe were also revamped. Tickets to this park are available on the web to facilitate the process.

Also in California there is the gorgeous Mammoth Lakes, that has a long snowboarding mountain season. Mammoth has a great snowboarding park which opens in early November.
The 4000 foot long Superpipe is considered among the best in the U. S.
Snowboarders find one place special. Sugarloaf, Maine at an elevation of 4,000 feet is one of the finest snowboarding mountain experiences. Here you can spring board in the most recent park called The YARD. The YARD has three sets of jumps, a hip, and they have recently put in new rails. Their opening day is usually around mid-November.
Stowe Mountain Resort the place to snowboard in Vermont. New England’s Mt Mansfield can be busy so it’s far better to buy tickets ahead of time here too. Opening day is mostly in mid-November.
If you try a mountain and have a bad experience remember it could have been the day, the gang or simply a bad time. Getting to the snowboarding mountain will be a useless venture if you arrive without what you need.

The Snowboarding Vacation
Is a vacation in your plans this coming winter or spring? Perhaps you are in the mood for something other than taking the yearly trip to “someplace warm?” Maybe you would prefer not to drop another five thousand dollars on a cruise? Want a little excitement? Want to feel the wind through your hair and the mountain sun on your face? Well grab the family and head out for a snowboarding vacation!
Skiing and Resorts
There was a time when snowboarding was for the skiing outcasts. It was even difficult to find a ski area that would allow them to use their runs. Thankfully, those days are long gone. When snowboarding hit the world consciousness at the 1998 Olympic games at Nagano, Japan, well, the world changed!
Today, snowboarding is as popular (more so?) as downhill skiing and you can find that activity at any ski resort. Snowboarding resorts are a mecca for the “snow set.” They host a huge array of activities that reach far beyond just skiing down the slope. Both singles and families will find the environment entertaining and relaxing. Couples will love the intimate surroundings of forest walks and cozy fire places, and families will be able to easily entertain the children while the parents find rejuvenation of the spirit.
Some of the most well known resorts that offer both Alpine (downhill) skiing and snowboarding were listed in Ski Magazine:

Vail, Colorado

Aspen, Colorado
Snowmass, Colorado
Park City, Utah
Breckenridge, Colorado
Beaver Creek, Colorado
Steamboat, Colorado
Sun Valley, Idaho
Many of these locations offer package deals attractive to both those challenged with limited time and/or financial considerations. Also, there are often packages designs with the busy lives of parents in mind or those seeking a romantic retreat. There is something for all folks at these resorts.
The snowboard vacation, though, is actually much more than skiing. Many resorts are within driving distance of other attractions such as amusement parks or other outdoor activities such as hiking or rock climbing. This “critical mass” of collocated attractions and locations are what put the bargain in a snowboard vacation and make your dollars go farther.
A Cozy and Romantic Atmosphere
Perhaps it’s too much to expect that raging downhill on your snowboard is viewed as “romantic” or “cozy.” But the truth is that a snowboarding vacation is so much more than just doing the slopes. Perhaps after a long tiring day on the slopes (and one too many tumbles?), you’ll notice that river rock fireplace or that outdoor Jacuzzi at your resort cabin (yes, cabin-just as often as a conventional hotel, you can have a cabin). Mix in the right company and this suddenly becomes interesting. And lets not forget the “après-ski” or after ski party. Many resorts throw some wild parties, and while you may not see that as cozy or romantic, who knows where it will lead later.
Work at Play
Sometimes it’s a hard concept to wrap your brain around; however, think about a corporate snowboarding vacation! Many companies take sabbaticals; what could be more relaxing than working at play (playing at work?) high in the mountains? Once you get over the shock of doing something fun “at work,” it makes eminent good sense. Think about it: every resort has meeting halls and offers conferencing and catering service. When the work is done (or not!), you hit the slopes for a much deserved injection of radical…on the corporate dime no less.
The Bottom-line on the Snowboarding Vacation
Vacations at Snowboarding resorts make sense. There are a large number of activities for singles, couples, and families. Unlike “going to the beach,” there are countless places to see and do once you have had your fill with skiing. The snowboarding vacation offers excitement, solitude, romance, and relaxation all in one.

If you’re anything like me, you like to have a great time skiing or snowboarding. I’m more into snowboarding, and as quite a few other people, I enjoy going to resorts where there are less people, and the site is less commercialized. Among the few places which still remain this way, you can count the Alaska skiing and snowboarding resorts. Most people don’t think about going to Alaska because there are so many ski resorts in North America, so why travel so far? That leaves you with opened slopes and half empty lift lines.
Let’s take a quick look at some of the best of Alaska’s skiing or snowboarding resorts:
1. Moose mountain, Alaska ski resort – Moose mountain is over 1250 ft feet of vertical, and has both beginner slopes as well as advanced slops. Due to the mountain’s southern exposure, the area is shielded from the prevailing Northeasterly winds, and thus receives hours of sun each day. This makes the mountain 20-30 degrees warmer than the nearby city.
Base Elevation: 680 ft
Summit Elevation: 1,987 ft
Vertical Drop: 1,307 ft
Skiable Area: 200 acres
Annual Snowfall: 70 in
Longest Run: 7,920 ft
Snowmaking: 0 %
Number of Lifts: 14
2. Eaglecrest Ski Area – the Eaglecrest ski resort is a community-owned ski resort that is located 12 miles from downtown Juneau on Douglas island. The ski and snowboard season at Eaglecrest runs from early December through mid-April. Most of the terrain is suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders
Base Elevation: 1,200 ft
Summit Elevation: 2,600 ft
Vertical Drop: 1,400 ft
Skiable Area: 640 acres
Annual Snowfall: 300 in
Longest Run: 10,560 ft
Snowmaking: 6 %
Number of Lifts: 4
Uphill Lift Capacity: 2,600 per hour
Types of Lifts: 1 Tubing Lift, 1 Surface Lift, 2 Double Chairs
Number of Trails: 31
3. Alyeska Resort – The Alyeska was voted one of the best ski resorts in the world by the ski magazine. This resprt has a great snowboarding park, and it’s also very suitable for families.

Lifts: 9
Trails:68
Longest run:10,560 feet
Annual snowfall:720 inches
snowmaking:37%
skiable area:1,000 acres

Where should we go for snowboarding???
Okay, my parents have aggreed to take a family trip to any where is US this winter for like a week of snowboarding. I was wondering where to go? I have never been to like a real mountain Im used to like Wisconsin snowboarding. I like to hit the terrain park, and I hit it pretty hard. So what do you guys this.. I was thinking Park City in Utah??
