Parties, Mtv And White Sand Beaches In Panama City, Now You’re Talking Spring Break

So, it’s coming up on Spring Break Vacation, you’re siked to get out for a week or so, and you definitely want to get out of the old mundane scenery you’re so used to. There are a variety of places you can go, but you really don’t want to miss Florida, where the sun is always hot, the water cool and salty, and fresh breezes or spring rain to cool off after the mid-day. If that’s got your attention, then let me redirect you to a pinpoint location: Panama City Beach in the Panhandle of Florida. Twenty-seven miles of granite white sand beaches, extending east to west, large enough for the entire state to come and relax without being too crowded. Now that I’ve tossed my line, have you taken the bait?
While we’re on the beach, we can run down a few activities popular at St. Andrews State Park, such as salt water fishing, surfing with a board or your body, swimming, diving, and snorkeling, sun bathing, picnics, football and volleyball. But if you watch TV, I’m sure you already know about all of that. Instead, let’s go for the new craze, parasurfing! Grab your wake board and hang glider style parashoot and head off to the water to face the wind and waves. What about if you have a boat? Well wakeboarding by itself is still a popular sport, as well as water skiing and tubing. If perhaps you do not own any of the equipment needed to enjoy life on the water, then I must say, that there are quite a few water sports companies around that allow you to rent surf boards, boats, jet skis, kayaks and wetsuits of your choice. You must remember, the heats up very quickly in Florida and the UV rays are more potent than in other areas of the U.S., so I must advise the use sunscreen and aloe to prevent sun burns or even sun poisoning… Neither of which is an attractive thing to have when going to our next set of stops.
Florida Nightlife puts all of the other places of the world to shame. Between the best clubs and bars, DJs and parties; nothing tops us. Panama City Beach is no exception, but instead, it is a rather jewel; an expectation set that many other beach front towns try to emulate. Most of your locations for drinks and dancing are located right on the beach, making it an easy transition from burning up to chilling out. MTV holds their Spring Break show here quite often, showing off clubs like Ms. Newbys Liquor, Blue Moose, and of course, the Coyote Ugly Saloon. However, for nights that you just want to chill out and not party so hard, be sure to check out the local restaurants, like Crazy Marlins and Hammerhead Fred’s, which are places that you can still have fun, enjoy casual to fine dining experience , and taste great seafood and other grill specials.
At the end of the night, when you need to crash, and not just lay on the street or beach-bum it out all night, you should head to a hotel. My advice, book the room(s) early, or you may be sleeping out on the one of the Florida Panhandle Beaches after all! Perhaps try one of the more famous places, such as the Sterling Resorts – Reflections and Marriott Legends Edge, both at Bay Point for a high class resort style hotel. Or if your budget is tight, check out the Ramada Inn or one of the more famous chain hotels. Either way, all you need is a place to stay for the night, because the next morning, you’ll be right out again, hitting the beach, dancing at the clubs and drinking the booze. Have fun, party safe, and please make Panama City Beach your destination for Spring Break!

The Best Babysoy Products for Travel
Traveling with a new baby is much different than traveling without children. Young babies and small children require much more stuff than adults while traveling. My first vacation with my daughter I had to bring an extra car just to hold her things! I was terrified I would forgot something that we desperately needed, like nursing pads, or a soft baby gum tooth brush. Packing for children does get easier as they age but why make it any harder on yourself than you have to? Here are my favorite

A Spring Day in Central Park
A Spring Day in Central Park
On occassion I write without objective; just observations that spill out and occupy themselves in my mind’s scrapbook. Sometimes I stumble across these words and they are like a warm sweater on a cold day.
The grass is at its prime in Central Park â just having drunk three days worth of spring showers. Like a fresh haircut, the blades dance in the wind, glints of sun, like glitter, are sprinkled throughout the Great Lawn.
Overdressed in my late winter parka, I walk amongst the athletes, the tourists, the private high school kids in phys ed. Children run one step in front of the nannies â yet one step behind the mommies on the Blackberries.
I walk behind a little Indian boy and his extended family of four. He too is overdressed. The outer most layer is a red quilted vest on top of a sweater concealing at least three more layers. The would-be grandma chases him with a tissue; the grandpa fumbles with a digital camera. I witness the older generation try to catch up â with youngsters, with technology. They walk around trying to be knocked down by unpredictability.
My thighs start to heat up as I walk, cooking under the tight blanket of denim in the afternoon sun. I find a seat on the inviting grass and unload my lime green spiral-bound Staples notebook. I scribble a bit but get easily distracted.
A dad in a leather blazer, pink button down, 1980s Ray Bans a la Tom Cruise, and loafers brings his three-year-old red-headed son for a day in the park. Within seconds the boyâs shoes are flying through the air. The divorced dad (no ring and wandering eyes) breaks out the catcherâs mitt. So cliché. The boy wears a Manning jersey. He throws the baseball and it lands three feet from me. I smile and look away into my notebook.
An old Hasidic Jew walks on the perimeter of the park. Heâs even more overdressed than me â black wool hat and coat. My ensemble ended with the black coat.
Couples abound in various flavors. The young and seemingly in love plop their asses on the ground and intertwine their appendages into a game of Twister for two. Another couple comes in bathing suits and bring a blanket, a cooler and cell phones equipped for two. He stands up, low-rise jeans hanging below his waist. (Is this still fashionable from the late 90s or is it back?) He walks away to chat on the phone. Stretching his arms up as in salute to the sun â his boxers riding up about 4â above his jeans. He looks around. This one will always be looking around. The girl, in the meantime, takes this opportunity to rotate onto her stomach â wiggle her ass in the air and check her phone all the same. All to show him â âa bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.â Either that or â âI got options.â
NYC is all about options. Youâve got options â a plethora of options. For everything. Bars, restaurants, shows, men, women, jobs, apartments.
It isnât long until the dad of the red headed boy is on the ground â leaning on his elbow, and scrolling through his Blackberry. No one is ever here anymore. Everyone is in a chess game â always two steps ahead â trying to predict the future. Predict your opponentsâ actions. Make all the right moves â win the game. We really are never taught the art of losing.
Another couples makes their home in my quadrant. Middle-aged and wealthy â they are finding their happiness on top of a cashmere throw and drinking red wine. They wear the uniform: khaki pants and matching white polo shirts. Getting buzzed under the spring sun â their eyes escape some sadness that has no monetary solution. Like Kleenex for the soul â they take a big gulp of the vino and lean back on their elbows to sun their faces.
Crowds of baseball-clad school kids stampede the field in shades of crimson, gold, navy and white, all proudly representing their overpriced educational abodes. Kids these days wear their elementary school brands on their apparel â a walking endorsement to go with their parentsâ tuition checks of over K.
Strollers parade around the park as if from a 64 box of Crayola Crayons. Huge ones, umbrella ones, funky space age ones, overpriced ones. A flavor for every taste.
The wind blows and from the trees, âsnowâ falls, the remnants of the dried flower petals. They create a white runner on the carpet of mulch.
Within half an hour, the boy and the dad are rolling around about arms distance from me. The clouds are moving quicker as the wind picks up. Iâm happy for my extra layers.
A teenage girl on rollerblades slows down and turns around to make sure sheâs not skating too fast for the older man whoâs following her. She spins around as if being watched, if only by her audience of one, and almost loses her balance. She adjusts and moves forward with a new-found need to prove her skill. A group of hardcore skaters follow her; a beacon on wheels.
An overweight woman, inappropriately dressed in spandex, makes her home within 10 yards of me. She lays down on her fluorescent orange shmata and rolls up her tight black shirt to just below her boobs. She proceeds to hike up her leggings for what I could only gather to be âcalf sunning.â As she rolls around on her back, she rubs her jiggly belly a bit. The white flesh seems so bright on the green grass. When I finally walk away, I could still see her like an X on a treasure map. The Jelly Belly Lady on the Great Lawn.
Spring, Texas?
Hello, our family is looking to relocated out of Austin in about 15-24 months. It’s mainly because my wife wants to be closer to her Aunt. She lives in Leesville, LA. So Houston area is the closest I will be to Louisiana (lol). I be darn to live in Louisiana. I need to be by a city, but not live in the city
Could you tell me a little about that city or Houston living lifestyle expense? A UT (University of Texas) student that works told me @ my company said that Houston is less expensive compared to Austin area (she is from Houston). (I live in Cedar Park actually) She said that we should not have any issues finding jobs there. I did an MLS search on Spring, TX and seem like I can definitely get more home and yard for the same price of my home that we live in now.
How is the commute to Houston from Spring?
I greatly appreciate any info that you could provide. Thanks!!
(Excuse my grammar, it is almost 2am)
