When you think of Vermont, everyone gets visions of mountains, making snow angels, ice skating and of course beautiful family vacation spots to visit. Renowned for some of the best cross-country and downhill ski areas, Vermont has almost 50 cross-country touring centers and 20 alpine ski resorts making it one of the best family vacation spots available. But there is more than just the sports, the picturesque landscape and villages in and near Stowe VT, hotels in this area are amazing vacation destinations. There are so many other beautiful cities and sites to see that your time in Vermont will be full of memories that you will never forget!
Available right outside many of the beautiful Stowe VT hotels is the world renowned Stowe, Killington and Mount Snow ski areas. Along with amazing skiing in these areas, Stowe is the home of the largest vertical drop in the entire area. Of course, that drop is something that should not be missed on your Vermont ski vacation, but there is more. The largest mountain in New England, Killington and its seven mountains has 5 terrain parks, 200 trails, 33 lifts and a 3,000 foot vertical drop. Yes, it is one of the favorite family vacation spots in the east because there is winter fun and sports for everyone of all ages. And for those non-skiers, many Stowe VT hotels offer romantic getaway packages that include everything that a couple would love to experience.
For over 100 years, Vermont has been the center for cross-country skiing. If you’ve never experienced this sport, your Vermont ski vacation is the time to try it. Skiing through forests, across fields and alongside clear mountain streams, you will experience a ski vacation that is unsurpassed by anything you’ve ever come across. With wide groomed trails throughout Vermont, you will find so many family vacation spots to enjoy that you will have to return to the area to experience all of them.
Besides just Stowe VT hotels, there are many more beautiful destinations all over the state where you can find accommodations near amazing mountains and beautiful villages. With so many family vacation spots available all over Vermont, you will have more than enough fine dining, shopping and winter sports to satisfy every member of your family. For a time with family and friends that you truly will never forget, take your first of many Vermont family vacations. And don’t forget your camera!

When you are searching for the perfect place to spend a winter vacation hitting the slopes and exploring stunning terrain, make your way to Winter Park for the vacation of a lifetime. Here you will find the most snowfall of any other Colorado ski resort, so pack your trusty skis or your favorite snowboard and get ready for the thrills and spills associated with a vast array of difficult runs. And while you experience all the great opportunities for excitement Winter Park has to offer, make a vacation rental your home base for a convenient and relaxing trip.
For those who want to be in the middle of all the action, a Winter Park condo rental that is centrally located would make it easy to access everything wonderful about this exciting city. You are only a five minute walk away from main street, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shopping while the ski shuttle stops at the front door to take you to the Winter Park Resort base. Make your way up to the mountain for a day on the slopes and then head back down to the nearby coffee shop where you can warm up a little before enjoying a relaxing evening.
To enjoy the food and fun of the main street area without giving up on the beauty and privacy of a mountain retreat, consider a home or condo that is nestled into the Arapahoe National Forest and is only a short walk to downtown Winter Park. Every glance out the window gives you the feeling of staying in a picturesque winter setting as the towering pines and massive expanse of land endure the blanket of the sparkling snow. With complete privacy throughout the duration of your stay, you can experience the serenity of a mountain escape while forgetting all the stress you have left behind.
If you plan on spending a majority of your vacation on the slopes, then a vacation rental that sits at the base of the resort is an excellent option for you. Not only will you have the easiest access to the Winter Park Base and lifts, but you will also experience the most breathtaking views of the mountain every morning. Prepare yourself for another exciting day of skiing or snowboarding by enjoying a fresh cup of coffee and watching the light begin to reflect off the unblemished white face of the mountains.
When heading to Winter Park with a large group of other outdoor adventurers, look into the numerous large mountain homes in the area that accommodate every guest without ever feeling cramped or on top of each other. There are homes with enough space for up to 16 guests so you can embark on whatever outdoor activities interest you by day and then retreat into the luxurious comfort of your rental home in the evening. Enjoy extras such as fleece blankets and flannel sheets in your spacious rental that makes it easy to plan and experience the cohesive vacation you have always imagined.
Winter Park vacation rentals are fully stocked with a variety of amenities and allow some of the most impressive mountain views in the area. Soak in the crisp winter air during your outdoor excursions and then step back to truly appreciate the immense beauty that surrounds you from the comforts of your warm and toasty rental home. With the perfect rental, you can enjoy not only memorable rides down towering mountain peaks but also a refreshing perspective of Mother Nature’s sheer elegance in Colorado. Begin your search for the perfect vacation rental today so you can get back to all the wondrous pursuits this visually stunning area has to offer.

Winter Park Lodging – Winter Park Hotels
Winter Park Lodging – Winter Park Hotels
Just a short drive west of Denver’s metropolitan area, vacationers and winter sports enthusiasts alike commonly find themselves taking in the breathtaking sights and scenery of Winter Park, Colorado. This hidden Rocky Mountain gem plays host to thousands of visitors every year in search of a getaway from the city or fun for the entire family – or some enjoy surrounding themselves in sheer natural beauty. Winter Park has so much to offer, including charming boutiques to shop in, exquisite dining or exciting festivals in the town center. No matter what you’re after, surely it can be found in Winter Park.
Nestled in the awe-inspiring peaks of the Rocky Mountains just 90 minutes west of Denver’s city limits, Winter Park is home to some of the most desired ski slopes in the continental United States. Commonly known as “Colorado’s Highest,” Winter Park holds the highest elevation of any incorporated town in the United States at 12,060 feet above sea level. Early on, initial settlements first sprung up during the construction of the Moffat Tunnel when a local merchant named “Doc” Graves built 26 tourist cabins, a café and service station. Recognized for the site’s beauty and sheer potential as a getaway location, Graves powered the small mountain village by means of a water wheel he installed at the nearby Vasquez Creek. Enjoying rare economic prosperity during the ominous Great Depression, the Winter Park Ski Resort opened its doors to patrons in 1939. Thousands flocked to Winter Park over the years simply to hit the slopes on the resort’s three interconnected peaks – Winter Park, Mary Jane and Vasquez Ridge. Despite the tourist buzz and years of success, it wasn’t until August 1, 1978 that Winter Park, Colorado was officially founded.
With all there is to offer, Winter Park lodging enjoys constant activity year round. During the winter months, Winter Park hotels are hubs for winter sport activity and excitement. But not just a ski town, Winter Park also boasts lots of warm weather activity including hiking, mountain biking, fishing and sight seeing. The town center also provides patrons with numerous shopping and dining opportunities.
No matter what you’re looking for, Winter Park is arguably one of the most accommodating vacation towns found throughout the Rocky Mountains. Winter Park lodging is warm and cozy and offers a wide array of vacationing choices. Anyone of the Winter Park hotels is sure to fit your needs. So whether it’s summer fun or winter sports activity, you’re sure to get your fill in Winter Park.
Vacationing in Winter Park
Vacationing in Winter Park
Located in the Colorado’s Northern Rocky Mountains, Winter Park is one of the most popular ski destinations in the country. The towering mountains frame this majestic city and call out to visitors who simply cannot ignore the allure of the stunning slopes and soft powder. A vacation in Winter Park can be filled with more than just skiing, so get out there and experience all this beautiful area has to offer.
Skiing at the Winter Park Resort is easy since visitors can hop aboard the Ski Train that takes visitors between Denver and Winter Park and drops them at the base of the resort. Upon arrival, visitors will be stunned by the sheer monstrosity of the mountain and all that lies before them. There are 134 runs, spread over 2,886 skiable acres, that are mostly geared towards intermediate and expert skiers. However, if you are a beginner, there is also an entertaining snow tubing area where you can get more thrills without the utter fear of cascading down a slope that is too difficult for you.
Winter Park is rightfully considered one of the best places in the state to ski or snowboard since it consistently receives more of the powdery white stuff than other resort in Colorado. For those who can handle a more difficult slope, the possibilities for excitement are endless on the five mountains that offer distinct trails, runs, and exceptional views. Whether the challenges of Vasquez Cirque, Vasquez Ridge, Mary Jane, Parsenn Bowl, or Winter Park are more your pace, you will never have a dull moment traversing this difficult and spectacular terrain.
For an off the beaten path adventure, get pulled through Winter Park’s stunning landscapes behind a team of huskies on a dog sled ride. Heading through the wilderness of the Fraser Valley area, visitors are invited to view the Continental Divide, the Winter Park Ski Resort, and surrounding peaks. You will weave in an out of dense forests at speeds reaching up to 20 miles per hour as you experience a true and memorable wilderness adventure.
If you can’t quite seem to shake your need for speed even after cruising down the mountain, consider a snowmobile tour that covers 100 miles of maintained trails in the Arapaho National Forest. A guide will lead you onto powder snow as you soak in breathtaking views and search for the random moose. You will cover more terrain and be able to enjoy the ride and the experience without worrying about safety and any situations that can arise on the trails.
Winter Park is a city filled with fabulous outdoor amusements that will make your heart beat a little faster and your body a little colder. After a long day out in the cool winter air, retreat into consider Winter Park vacation rentals for a relaxing evening surrounded by all the amenities of home.
A roaring fireplace awaits when you step into your rental and invites you to kick back in silence or relax in a comfortable chair while watching your favorite show or team. Enjoy a leisurely evening in your spacious rental home or head out to one of the nearby restaurants where you can re-energize for another demanding day on the mountain. No matter what kind of vacation you are looking for, a Winter Park condo, house, or chalet has everything you need to realize the most relaxing, enjoyable trip possible.

The Peak is Maineâs largest family-owned ski mountain and is home to the most night skiing in New England, with the largest lit terrain park/halfpipe combo along with 98 percent snowmaking coverage.
âSince purchasing Shawnee Peak in 1994, Chet Homer, a Kennebunk businessman, has focused on fine tuning the mountainâs infrastructure by adding lifts, lights and trails, improving snowmaking, buying a fleet of new Pisten Bully groomers, and adding innovative family pricing packages, says Rock. Homer has kept costs down and offers customers value for their Shawnee experience, which has encouraged continued family participation in the sport.
âLocated just two hours from Boston,â says Rock, âthe Peak offers more than 40 trails, four gladed areas of all ability levels, two terrain parks â including the NEW 12â 20â Monster Wall, a 400-foot halfpipe, five lifts, with an unprecedented big-mountain experience combined with small-mountain value.â The Peak boasts Maineâs Largest and Best Kept Lit Halfpipe, at more than 400 feet long and 44 feet lip to lip. Freestyle skiers, snowboarders and snowbladers play day and night in the Pipe and Park, consistently and expertly maintained with Shawnee Peakâs Pisten Park Bully.
And located slopeside, just a short slide from the base lodge, the Peak offers brand new two-bedroom luxury condos available for rent and sale.
The mountain overlooks scenic Moose Pond, and offers great views of New Hampshireâs Mount Washington and the Presidential Range to the west, and the Lakes Region of western Maine to the east. The Peakâs gladed terrain allows intermediate skiers to experience the thrill and beauty of skiing among the trees of Shawneeâs Sherwood Forest area or graduate to the advanced and expert terrain in the famous gladed areas off the mountainâs East Side.
Rock pointed out some new changes at the Peak. There is an environmentally oriented snowmaking pump, making more snow, using less energy! Also there is the improved âHappiness Isâ trail – a popular beginner slope, widened by 75 feet.
âPlus there is value at The Peak,â says Rock. Everyday there is a special ski offeringâ¦some samples are, Monday – Carload Dayz: Arrive before 11 a.m. and everyone in your vehicle skis âtil 9 p.m. for just per vehicle; or Wednesday – Family Day: buy an adult ticket and get a junior ticket for just more, one adult and one junior, ; or Saturday – Saturday Night Fever: ski 7 to 10 p.m. for just . Rentals, ; or Sunday – Ski Sunday Afternoon (noon to 4:30 p.m.) just . Add rentals, .
For beginner skiers and families with young children, the beginner surface lift is just â and can be credited toward a full-price lift ticket later in the day. Children five and under ski free anytime at the Peak when accompanied by a paying adult. âThere is also the nationally-acclaimed SKIwee program for ages four to five, says Rock, with other childrenâs programs that include the Junior Mountaineers and the MiniRiders snowboarding program for ages 7 to 12.â
The Mountain also has the Peak-A-Boo Day Care Center which offers care for children ages three months to six years. For events and vacation information, (207) 647-8444 or go to http://www.shawneepeak.com.
Burke Mountain in Vermont is renowned for its breathtaking views and ski racing heritage. Says David Gwatkin, Marketing Director, âBurke Mountain, located in the village of East Burke, is the best kept skiing secret in the Northeast. The area is home to Burke Mountain Academy, the preeminent ski academy in the country with 40 Olympians to its credit. And the Mountain features sweeping, winding trails, an average of 248 inches of snowfall each year, 45 trails and glades on 250 acres of terrain, and a vertical drop of 2,011 feet (among the elite eight in Vermont with more than 2,000).â
There have been major upgrades to its snowmaking system that provide 80 percent coverage for novice, intermediate, and expert trails. Burke also has four terrain parks to keep the freestylists in your family busy all day long.
âThe Mountain offers the Snowsports Learning Center, the ski school which introduced the revolutionary âcarved turnââ, adds Gwatkin. There is also the Tamarack Grill restaurant and bar, a retail shop, and a cafe. The Grill is known locally for superb food and offers an extensive wine list and a variety of Vermont brews, including its very own Tamarack and Bear Den Ales. The Mid-Burke Lodge, featuring the Bear Den Lounge, captures the essence of the character of Burke Mountain, with its field stone fireplace, exposed wooden beams, solid pine tables and skis from days gone by displayed on its walls.
Also, Burke Mountain âoffers a variety of season-long programs for children and aspiring ski racers,â says Gwatkin. âThe Snowsports Learning Center features its Burkie Explorers and Freestyle programs for children from ages four to 12. These programs are available to both skiers and snowboarders. Burke Mountain also partners with Burke Mountain Academy to offer its Junior Race Program, available to racers in the J3 to J7 classes. Young racers train and race throughout the season under the tutelage of BMAâs world-class coaches, some of whom are former Olympic and US National Team members.â
Beyond the resort, families can partake in ice-fishing on one of the regionâs magnificent lakes, ice skating on a secluded pond, sledding, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, dog-sledding or take a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh.
And there is summer time too on the mountain. Gwatkin mentioned that the âarea offers a bevy of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Over a third of the stateâs ponds and lakes are in Northeast Kingdom, Vermontâs expansive, least populated region, offering wonderful paddling and angling experiences. The village of East Burke is home to the Kingdom Trails, an internationally acclaimed network of over 150 miles of mountain biking trails stitched across the areaâs pastoral landscape. For those interested in viewing wildlife either by boat or on foot, seeing loon, moose, deer, wild turkeys, ruffed grouse, peregrine falcons, and the cagey red fox is hardly uncommon.â
Burke Mountainâs parent company, the Ginn Company, based in Celebration, FL, is currently in the planning stages for a development that will include condominiums, single-family homes and a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. Give a close look at http://www.skiburke.com
Ski Butternut, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts is described by SKI Magazine as âa true family mountainâ and âfamily gemâ, that offers skiers and snowboarders from across the northeastern United States an affordable, fun-filled winter sports experience. With 1,000 feet of vertical, Ski Butternutâs 110-skiable-acres of slopes and trails provide snow-sport enthusiasts of all abilities a unique and memorable winter experience. âAnd thanks to a newly upgraded snowmaking system,â says Matt Sawyer, Marketing Director, âthe mountain can now pump out 200 percent more snow this winter than in previous years, as long as Mother Nature cooperates!â
The mountain, located in the beautiful Berkshire mountains of southwestern Massachusetts, is a relatively short drive, less than four hours from Philadelphia or New York City, with directions provided on Ski Butternutâs informative website http://www.SkiButternut.com.
âSki Butternut affords skiers and snowboarders of all abilities a diverse sampling of terrain,â says Sawyer. âOur trails include an easy yet fun-filled beginner trail which winds from top to bottom through virgin forests of Pine, Hemlock, Beech and Maple.â
Unlike other mountains located much farther north, all trails safely funnel back to the base area, so families can reconnect and share the winter fun more easily! At the mountainâs base are two modern base lodges and a separate but easily accessible learn-to-ski area featuring gentle first-timer and beginner slopes with their own easy-to-learn-and-use chairlifts, and a gentle Wonder Carpet ride for the very youngest skier or snowboarder!
âElsewhere on our mountain,â adds Sawyer, âsliders will find a variety of wider, intermediate trails, perfect for relaxed cruising and linking long, carved turns. Other skiers and snowboarders wanting a bit more of a wild ride, will enjoy Ski Butternutâs two terrain parks. The more advanced park offers a selection of challenging âhitsâ and jumps, scattered across and down our âTwistâ and âWestwayâ expert trails. For those just learning terrain park features, a smaller version is located in Ski Butternutâs beginner area. â
In keeping skiing and snowboarding costs affordable, Butternut offers savings and great value. For instance, season passes, if purchased by November 30th, are only 9 for adults, ages 14 to 65; 9 for juniors, ages seven to 13; and just for kids, six-years and under. After that, season prices revert to their regular rates (9 for adults, 9 for juniors and just for kids).
âIf you are not ready to commit to season passes,â says Sawyer, âconsider purchasing Ski Butternutâs Lift-Ticket-3-Packs. These blocks of three daily lift vouchers can be used interchangeably, individually or togetherâ¦and if purchased by December 20, will save you per ticket! And skiers and snowboarders who donât yet have their own gear, can rent complete sets of equipment for the season for just for kids and juniors, and only 9 for anyone over the age of 14!â
You can also save by skiing Monday through Thursday, when lift tickets are just ( tickets are not valid during holiday periods). Also there are First-Timer and All-Mountain packages, which include lift, lesson and rentals. Economical ski and stay packages are also available at more than 30 country inns, bed and breakfasts and motels near the mountain, starting at just per person per day! âThis price includes both your lodging and your daily lift ticket,â adds Sawyer.
The Mountain has more than 200 qualified ski, snowboard and adaptive instructors under the guidance of Einar Aas, director for the past 44 years.
Many youngsters learn, practice and improve their skills best through Ski Butternutâs SKIwee and miniRIDER learning programs. These special programs, which provide young skiers and snowboarders a lift ticket, lesson and snacks for the day, can be extended for five days to maximize savings.
So wherever you are in the northeast, there is plenty of quality, family snow sport fun without needing a hefty bank account to do it. Beautiful, exciting and rewarding the winter mountain experience awaits you.

Winter Park Resort is an alpine ski resort in Winter Park, Colorado in the Rocky Mountains. Located just off U.S. Highway 40, the resort is about an hour and a half’s drive from Denver, Colorado.
The mountain opened for the 19391940 season as Winter Park Ski Area and was owned and operated by the city and county of Denver until 2002, when Denver entered into a partnership with Intrawest ULC, a Canadian corporation headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, which has operated the resort since then. For nearly 70 years a popular way for Denver residents many of whom have learned to ski or snowboard at Winter Park over the years to get there was via the Ski Train, which arrived at the resort’s base area though the Moffatt Tunnel. (The Ski Train was terminated by the railroad in spring 2009). It is home to one of the world’s largest and oldest disabled skiing programs, the National Sports Center for the Disabled.
The resort consists of three interconnected mountain peaks Winter Park, Mary Jane, and Vasquez Ridge which share a common lift ticket. Mary Jane, opened in 1975, has a separate base area and is known for its moguls, tree skiing, hidden huts and generally more difficult terrain. It encompasses the above-tree line terrain of Parsenn Bowl. Vasquez Ridge, opened in 1986, offers intermediate terrain and mogul runs. In 1997, 435 acres (1.76 km2) of backcountry terrain in Vasquez Cirque were opened to skiing, although access required hiking from the top of Mary Jane; the 2006 relocation of the former Outrigger triple chairlift to the Cirque provides lift access to much of that terrain.
Since taking over operation of the resort, Intrawest has made several changes to the mountain’s infrastructure, renovating the food services in the West Portal base lodge, opening new lifts in 2005 and 2006, and publicly announcing plans for a new base village to include hundreds of new condominiums, a parking structure, a “Village Pond,” and a “family swim center,” all accessible via a new open-air gondola to be known as “The Cabriolet.” However, while this change has been great for the economic development of the town and the resort, it has also been a threat to the existing historic resort base. The historic Balcony House remains under constant threat of demolition. This historic building was designed in the Googie style of architecture, which was a popular style in the 1940s to the 1960s. This building is a standing memory to the original history of Winter Park.
In an attempt to make Winter Park into a year-round resort, Intrawest operates the lifts during the summer months for mountain biking. The Arrow chairlift also services an alpine slide in the summer, and the base area features miniature golf, a climbing wall, and other diversions. While the Winter Park area is also a popular destination for golf, there are no golf courses located at, or operated by, the resort itself.
